English as a Second Language – Bilingual School

Portuguese and English are an integral part of all our children’s daily lives. We follow the
Portuguese Curriculum and have several subjects worked in both languages so we can expose
children to a greater number of hours in English than what is planned in the Portuguese
Curriculum. Having daily contact with both languages allows children to keep Portuguese as a
native language and develop high quality fluency in English. We have increased our focus on
exposing children to the English language and have increased their interaction with the English
language, so they feel the need and confidence to express themselves in English. We continue
to monitor the steps taken and reflect on new steps to take.
